Though we liked ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’, it bombed at the box office, but there are many reasons. Warner’s disconcerting pandemic policy to promote its streaming service to release simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max affected many films. Its plot is unknown, but Warner Bros. Motion Pictures president of production Jesse Ehrman promises to advance the fantasy world without straying from the series’ success.

Ehrman stated, “Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters.” “The entire Warner Bros. Goddard wrote “The Martian,” starring Matt Damon and directed by Ridley Scott, which earned him an Oscar nomination. In addition to writing “Cloverfield” and “World War Z,” he wrote and directed “The Cabin in the Woods” and “Bad Times at the El Royale.”

“It is not hyperbole to say ‘The Matrix’ films changed both cinema and my life,” Goddard said. “Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me daily, and I am beyond grateful to tell stories in their world.”

“The Matrix,” which started the franchise in 1999, is a landmark science fiction film. The 2003 sequels “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” and 2021’s “The Matrix Resurrections” followed. The fourth film, directed by Lana for the first time after 18 years, was a box office bomb. This is partly because HBO Max offered “The Matrix Resurrections,” along with Warner Bros.’ entire 2021 slate, for free. Despite a $190 million budget, it grossed $159 million worldwide.
