The topic might come up at the next NATO summit in Washington early in July, Olga Stefanichyna, the deputy prime minister of Ukraine, stated. “We are doing everything we can to mobilize enough air defenses to allow the country to continue to function throughout this war,” she stated.

Kiev, on the other hand, is not anticipating any advancement with regard to joining the Alliance. “We have very little chance of receiving an invitation to join NATO (during this summit),” laments a diplomatic source from Ukraine, adding that she is not giving up on getting concessions on other issues despite Washington and Berlin’s opposition. According to the source, “the sense of guilt puts pressure on the allies to make strong alternative decisions” in support of Kiev.
