The craziest movie of the year

The ‘what if…?’ question that is the most ridiculous of all time is: “What if ‘Avatar’ starred ducks?”

In the 1980s, the shameless plagiarists who produced hits like “Mad Max” or “Conan” (often in collusion with their Mediterranean brothers, that is, the Spanish producers, who also had plenty of cheek) were responsible for the Italian industry of exploitation, which rarely leaves its country. When it does leave, it is because it has some international star on board. This is similar to what happened in the 1980s. There were times that were unquestionably more bizarre and enjoyable.

‘Anatar,’ which is an absurd parody of ‘Avatar’ starring ducks (obviously, people dressed as ducks), has just been released on Prime Video. It appears that some of that spirit has been recovered in this film. A space village of humanoid ducks known as the Anatar will be introduced to us in this story. The Anatar are searching for a new place to live after their native Anat has depleted all of the resources available to them. Thus, they discover the planet Pandoro, which is strikingly similar to a human village from the middle ages. For the purpose of preventing the Pandorians from being destroyed, Princess Avia, who is the daughter of Emperor Quack, makes the decision to assume the form of a native in order to save them.

In other words, unlike in the film directed by James Cameron, this time it is the aliens who take on human form, rather than the other way around from the beginning. Whatever the case may be, these subtleties are of little significance in a movie that features a spaceship called Oca Hontas and in which the aliens communicate with one another through the use of “quacks” (of course, the subtitles are included). Additionally, one of the Pandorians is a direct parody of Donald Trump, who has expressed his desire to construct a wall in order to separate his own people.

Anatar, which also has a history of conflicts behind it, is a film that you will feel right at home with if you are into crazy comedy. It was subjected to a number of significant cuts and additions at the behest of producer Salvatore Scarico, which resulted in a complete modification of the ending. The director, Lorenzo Dante Zanoni, made the decision to forego receiving credit for the film and instead had it signed by Alan Smithee, who is considered to be the pseudonym of choice for directors who do not wish to be credited. Don’t worry if you don’t like Anatar; there is a possibility that we will see the Director’s Cut of the film at some point in the future.

The cinematic genre of satires is a subgenre in and of itself. From films like Sharknado, which are creatively insane, to films like Spaceballs, which are homages to great sagas, it is evident that these films have their own audience, which is what makes them successful despite having a very low budget.

However, among all of the satires in films, there is one that nobody anticipated and that has been a huge hit with the audience for B-movies, and that is Anatar. The Italian film “pays homage” to the film Avatar in a manner that no one anticipates: the Na’vi protagonists are replaced by ducks.

The film was directed by Alan Smithee, and Salvatore Scarico was responsible for writing the screenplay. It has just been made available on Prime Video, and the first look at its trailer is as follows:

Following the destruction of their planet, a group of extraterrestrial ducks in Anatar look for a new place to call home. Following their arrival in Pandoro, a world that is characterised by harmony, they are forced to navigate through an unfamiliar environment,

Where they encounter love, conflicts, and cultural challenges. Despite its low budget, it is a parody that features makeup that is more terrifying than anything else. On the other hand, there is never a better thing to watch if you are looking for a good laugh.
