Jewish voters who support the Democratic Party, according to statements made by former President Donald Trump on Monday, “hate Israel” and “hate their religious faith.” The statements he made were met with considerable criticism from the White House as well as leaders in the Jewish community.

In the course of an interview, Mr. Trump was questioned about the mounting criticism that Democrats are leveling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his management of the conflict in Gaza, which is causing the number of civilian deaths to continue to rise.

“I really think they hate Israel,” Mr. Trump responded to Sebastian Gorka, who had previously served as an advisor to him. My guess is that they despise Israel. The Democratic Party is a party that despises Israel.

After that, Mr. Trump, who has been the presumed nominee for president of the Republican Party as of the previous week, continued by saying, “Every Jewish person who votes for Democrats hates their religion.” These people despise anything and everything that has to do with Israel, and they ought to be ashamed of themselves because Israel is going to be destroyed.

The remarks elicited rapid responses from the White House, the campaign team of President Joe Biden, and leaders within the Jewish community. Most Jews in the United States consider themselves to be Democrats; yet, President Trump has frequently accused them of being disloyal, which has contributed to what some people have referred to as an anti-Semitic leitmotif.

Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the White House, referred to the remarks as “unpleasant and unbalanced anti-Semitic rhetoric,” but he did not specifically reference Mr. Trump in his statement.

“As anti-Semitic crimes and acts have increased around the world — including the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust — leaders have an obligation to call out hate for what it is and unite Americans against it,” according to the president. “There is no excuse for disseminating preconceptions that are not just inaccurate but also toxic, which puts fellow citizens in danger. It’s not (excuse)”

That “the only one who should be ashamed here is Donald Trump” was a statement made by the electoral team of President Biden.

“Trump will lose again this November as Americans are tired of hateful resentment, personal attacks and an extreme agenda,” according to a spokesperson named James Singer.

“Accusing Jews of hating their religion because they can vote for a particular party is patently false slander,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, the head of the Anti-Defamation League. Greenblatt made this statement.

“Serious leaders who are interested in the historic US-Israel alliance should focus on strengthening, not undermining, bipartisan support for the state of Israel,” he said in an article published on the X Network.

Former President Trump made these remarks at a time when Vice President Joe Biden is coming under increasing pressure from the more progressive members of his party on his support for Israel, which is currently conducting a punishing offensive in Gaza. Since Hamas launched its onslaught on Israel on October 7, the Ministry of Health in the territories controlled by Hamas has said that more than 300,000 Palestinians had been murdered.

President Biden has been more critical of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite the fact that he continues to support Israel’s right to self-defense. Following the speech that Mr.

Biden gave regarding the current status of the nation, he stated that he felt the need to have a “sobering” conversation with the leader of Israel. Additionally, he stated that Mr. Netanyahu should “pay more attention to the innocent lives that are being lost as a result of the actions that are being taken,” and he accused Mr. Netanyahu of “harming Israel more than contributing to its development.”

In particular, Mr. Trump made reference to remarks that were recently made by Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Majority Leader of the Senate and the highest-ranking person of Jewish heritage in the United States. This past week, Mr. Schumer delivered a speech in which he harshly criticized Mr. Netanyahu’s management of the conflict in Gaza. He also issued a warning that the high number of civilian deaths was causing Israel’s image to suffer around the world. In addition to that, he demanded that Israel hold fresh elections.

Despite the fact that the White House has formally distanced itself from Mr. Schumer’s remarks, the Democratic leader was expressing a perspective that is becoming increasingly prevalent among the ranks of officials working for President Biden’s administration officials.

Mr. Schumer, who Mr. Trump had accused of being “very anti-Israel right now,” responded by accusing Mr. Trump of making statements that were “very partisan and hateful.”

In an article that he published on the X network, he stated that “making Israel a partisan issue only harms Israel and US-Israel relations.”

Seven out of ten Jewish American adults identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party, according to a survey that was published by the Pew Research Center in 2021. The report stated that Jews are “among the most consistently liberal and Democratic groups in the United States.” The findings of the group in the year 2020 indicated that during the time that Mr. Trump was president, four quarters of American Jews did not support the work that he was doing, and just 27 percent of them had a favorable assessment of him.

As indicated by polls conducted by the Associated Press news agency and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, the level of support that the United States of America has for Israel’s military operation in Gaza is continuing to decrease. The percentage of American adults who believed that Israel’s military response to the Gaza Strip had gone too far increased from forty percent in November to fifty percent in January. It is significantly more prevalent among Democrats to have this percentage.

Former President Trump’s remarks on Monday that “any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion” were met with an immediate and harsh criticism from Jewish Democrats in Congress who were horrified by the comments.

The reason why this is significant is that it is a precursor to what is to come as the election in 2024 heats up against the backdrop of the war between Israel and Hamas.

The assaults that Trump has made against Jewish Democrats have gotten him into trouble in the past. On the radio show hosted by his right-wing former White House staffer Seb Gorka, President Trump voiced his disapproval of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (Democrat of New York) for his harsh criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“When you see those Palestinian marches … guys like Schumer see that, and to him, it’s votes,” Trump explained to reporters. “He’s very anti-Israel now.”

The former president continued by saying, “Any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion, they hate everything about Israel, and they should be ashamed of themselves.”

According to a statement made by Schumer on X, “To make Israel a partisan issue only hurts Israel and the relationship between the United States and Israel.” Trump is engaging in rhetoric that is both highly politicized and cruel.

Is what they are expressing: Representative Dean Phillips, a Democrat from Minnesota, who is the ranking member of the House subcommittee that is responsible for overseeing Israel and the Middle East, expressed to Axios that the comments were “revolting, repugnant, and reprehensible.”

“How dare Donald Trump lecture Chuck Schumer about being Jewish,” remarked Representative Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who referred to the remarks as a “outrageous slander against the vast majority of American Jews.”

Becca Balint, a Democrat from Vermont, referred to President Trump as a “truly hateful man who is trying everything in his power to get residents of the United States to hate each other.”

Rep. Steve Cohen, a Democrat from Tennessee, stated that Trump “has no religion.” “[He] never goes to church, certainly doesn’t know anything about Matthew and the New Testament and less about Jews and their commitment to social justice and Israel.”

Get closer: The previous president was also criticized by a number of moderates who are very ardent in their support for Israel.

“Trump demonstrates daily his lack of fitness for the presidency by spreading dangerous stereotypes and embracing antisemites,” stated Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Florida), who works for the Democratic Party.

Representative Kathy Manning, a Democrat from North Carolina, stated that the rhetoric of President Trump is “particularly disgraceful and dangerous at a time when Jews are facing dangerous levels of antisemitism nationwide.”

On the other hand, Trump’s staff increased their efforts on Monday, with spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stating in a statement that Trump “is right.”

“The Biden Administration has given millions in aid to Gaza and the Iranian Regime, Democrats in Congress have signed petitions supporting Gaza terrorists and caved to the demands of Far-Left Palestinian extremists,” according to her statement.

“The Democrat Party has turned into a full-blown anti-Israel, anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist cabal.”
In terms of the numbers, Democrats frequently win Jewish voters by large margins. According to an analysis conducted by the Pew Research Center, Trump received only thirty percent of the Jewish vote in 2016 and twenty-seven percent of the Jewish vote in 2020.

Only two of the thirty-three Jewish members of Congress are Republicans. These two representatives are Representatives David Kustoff (R-Tennessee) and Max Miller (R-Ohio).

In response to queries for comment on Trump’s statements, their respective spokespeople, Kustoff and Miller, who had previously worked as an advisor to Trump, did not immediately answer.

Raskin stated, “Fortunately, I do not know any Jews who look to Donald Trump for advice on how to be Jewish.” This is the essence of the matter.

“After all, this is the guy who saw ‘very fine people on both sides’ of an antisemitic riot and entertained the neo-Nazi Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes over at his house at Mar-a-Lago for dinner.”
