RTVE ha decidido recuperar 'Supernanny'

Although the show asserts that it depicts the difficulties of parenting, it has a long history of criticism and has been canceled in various nations before it comes to the United States.

‘Supernanny‘ is a program that has already been successful on Cuatro, and TVE has announced that it would be returning for a new season. The network has stated that the show will be aimed at assisting “families faced with the challenges of parenting.”

A psychologist named Rocío Ramos-Paúl will embark on a journey around Spain, searching for families that have children who are causing them difficulties and providing them with guidance on how to teach them. Since its earliest announcement, the format has been met with a few of controversies and criticisms of a sort to which TVE is not fully immune. This is despite the fact that it has been a format that has been successful on a global scale for twenty years since it was first introduced.

The beginnings of the term “Supernanny.” In 2004, the program was born in the United Kingdom, where it was broadcast on Channel 4 for a period of four years. The program was impressed by the advice that was offered by Jo Frost, a professional nanny who proposed training methods that were different from beatings and penalties. The success of the show resulted in the production of other international adaptations, including the one that Rocío Ramos-Paúl herself starred in for eight seasons between the years 2006 and 2014. These adaptations garnered a significant audience figure, often surpassing 12% of the total audience during its most successful moments.

The debates around the past. It is not always the case that the program has been favorably welcomed. An example of this would be the fact that the naughty step, also known as “Thinking Corner” in this country, was already subject to significant criticism in the British version. In this system, children who misbehave are given a warning; but, if they continue to behave in an inappropriate manner, they are required to sit on a step and wait for one minute for every year that they are older.

After that, they are required to offer an apology. In the French edition, a petition was signed by more than two thousand individuals, which condemned the practices that were utilized by the supernanny Sylvie Jenaly. This controversy centered on the excessive exposure of youngsters as the primary topic of discussion.

Children who were misused. Bernadette Gautier, a therapist working for a parent support association, filed a complaint in France, accusing the program of “educational violence” and violating the “rights of children, showing them in degrading situations.” Gautier’s allegations were made in response to comments made by the French government.

Jenaly was accused of “humiliating” certain youngsters, and Gautier provided an example to illustrate his claim: “in a recent episode, a mother was seen brushing her son’s teeth who was 11 years old.” I can only imagine the insulting responses she received from her classmates at school. These demonstrations are currently being carried out in Spain in a similar fashion.

Things are always shifting. On the occasion of the publication of ‘Supernanny’ by Cuatro in 2006, the legislation that govern the protection of minors in audiovisual works were different. Currently, these laws are more stringent, and there are already associations that defend children’s rights that warn about possible violations of the rights of minors who appear in “Supernanny.” For example, the association known as “The Violet Seed” has done so in this manifesto, and the YouTuber Medianoche, who specializes in overexposure of minors, has also done so.

In point of fact, there is a significant precedent: in Portugal, in January 2018, the program was canceled after only one week that followed an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation determined that the network that broadcast it had to distort the faces and voices of children in order for it to be broadcast, which was something that the network did not accept.

An account of the conflict. The reality television network RTVE is not completely immune to this kind of criticism. The program ‘MasterChef Junior’ has been regularly attacked by child psychologists for the excessive level of competition that is displayed in the show, which borders on abuse. For instance, during the third season, a girl persisted to participate in the test after having burned herself while cooking.

At the same time, there has been a persistent discussion regarding the fact that the program places children, some of whom are very young, in stressful situations that are intended to be handled by an adult. There have been other instances on which TVE has defended itself against the allegations; however, the premiere of ‘Supernanny’ once again places public television in the eye of the cyclone.

Today, the Spanish public television station RTVE made the official announcement that it will be adapting the British model Supernanny in collaboration with Warner Bros. International TV Productions Spain (Warner Bros. ITVP Spain). From 2006 to 2017, the private channel Cuatro, which is owned by Mediaset España, previously showed the format on Spanish television. The RTVE adaption will signal the return of the format to Spanish television, where it had previously been broadcast. Rocío Ramos-Paúl, the protagonist of the original Spanish version of the format, will once again be featured in the new production.

Based on a production that Ricochet had done for Channel 4, Supernanny was initially shown in the United Kingdom in the year 2003. Not only has the format been modified in Spain and the United Kingdom, but it has also been adapted other nations such as the United States of America, Germany, France, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. Additionally, Discovery Home & Health has developed a Latin American version of the format. The goal of Supernanny is to provide assistance to families struggling to become better educators for their children who are misbehaving.

In addition to producing or having created formats such as I Can See Your Voice, Kitchen Nightmare, Who Wants to Marry my Son?, Reality Queens, The Wheel, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Fboy Island, and other daily programs like First Dates and Come Dine With Me, Warner Bros. ITVP Spain is also responsible for producing or having produced these formats.

I recently started to get interested in lost material, and I recalled this version of Supernanny that is probably never going to be released again due of the controversy that surrounded its initial release. I am not sure if it is legal for them to do so, but I do know that it is likely that they will never release it again. Because I was unable to locate any English links that I could rely on, and because the majority of the videos from SIC are no longer accessible, all of the links are of the Portuguese language. To tell you the truth, I just wanted to write (instead of studying), and I’m not particularly interested in discovering it.

I actually don’t know too much about the show, other than the fact that it’s a show in which parents of children who are having problems contact a nanny for assistance in their efforts to discipline their children. Other countries, such as the United States of America, Brazil, and Spain, have adapted the show after it was initially shown in the United Kingdom.

I believe that the announcement for SuperNanny Portugal was made in late 2017, by the channel SIC (which stands for “Independent Communication Society”), which was produced by Warner Bros. Tv Portugal. The nanny was a psychologist named Dr. Teresa Paula Marques, who had previously appeared on television, written articles for magazines, and written books. I found an article in which she stated that she is not there as a clinical psychologist, but rather as the character SuperNanny. There are still two promotional versions of this edition that can be found online.

On the fourteenth of January, 2018, the first episode of the show was broadcast, and it followed the case of a girl who was seven years old. The second episode, which was broadcast on the twenty-first of January, followed a girl who was five years old. I do not possess any other information regarding the episodes. It sparked a great deal of controversy, with organizations such as the National Committee for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Young People claiming that it infringed the rights of children and breached their right to privacy.

Despite all of the issues that were brought up by organizations that advocate for children’s rights, the show was one of the most watched during that hour, with a share of 24.2% for the first episode and a share of 26% for the second episode. In spite of this, SIC expressed a desire to continue airing the remaining episodes of the show, demonstrating that the show was well appreciated in other countries such as the United Kingdom and Spain. Moreover, they engaged in a discussion over it; however, it is no longer accessible.

After the case was heard in court, it was ruled that SIC and Warner Bros. TV Portugal were not permitted to broadcast or distribute the program without first obtaining permission from the CPCJ, which stands for the committee for the protection of children and young people (this paragraph is not the same as the one found in the previous paragraph). The show was ultimately canceled by SIC, and the third episode, along with the remaining episodes of the series, was never made available again or distributed to the public.
